Eat Colourfully

Berries, Berries, Spring Berries

It is the Spring! It is berry time - time to eat strawberries [strawberry recipe], blueberries, blackberries, mulberries, loganberries, cherries and others you can find at the market.   What can be more tempting than all the fresh berries sitting in front of you and waiting to be picked up.  The red, the blue, the purple, the orange, and the yellow, the colours remind you of the fresh spring breeze blowing through the woods, the crystal water running down the creeks and the bright sunlight shining between the gaps of the green leaves.  Berries are poetic, magic and bring back us all the memories of nature, the bush and the forest.

The Secret of Being Pretty

For berries, the secret of being so attractive is to create contrast in colour with their backgrounds and allure animals to eat them, and therefore provide aid in the dispersal of the plants' seeds.

Usually, berries are a good source of dietary fibre, vitamins and essential minerals, such as zinc.  They also contain amongst the highest levels of natural antioxidants - which can combat the oxidative damage during normal metabolism.

Berries' colours are due to natural plant pigments. Their beautiful blue and red hues also mean they are very good for human health.
